Hub Leader Prof Veena Sahajwalla AO recognised for excellence in sustainable innovation

Congratulations to Prof Veena Sahajwalla AO, Hub Leader of the Sustainable Communities and Waste Hub and Director of the SMaRT@UNSW, on receiving the Excellence in Sustainable Innovation (Industrial) Award at the 2025 Vogue Codes Summit.

This award recognises Prof Sahajwalla’s pioneering work in waste-to-resource manufacturing that is being amplified by the SCAW Hub’s objectives to create circular solutions for Australia.

Under her leadership, our Hub is exploring how local, scalable recycling technologies can be used to create value-added products, reduce emissions and strengthen circular supply chains, especially for complex waste streams. 

Speaking at the event, Prof Sahajwalla highlighted and acknowledged her work with leading researchers and practitioners, highlighting the importance of diverse communities coming together to create a more sustainable future. 

She shared her vision for a sustainable future, highlighting the importance of creating a circular economy around local supply chains, needs and contexts. She said using waste as a resource must be at the centre of future manufacturing and innovative decarbonisation efforts. 

Prof Sahajwalla’s recognition reflects the impact of turning science into real-world solutions for a more sustainable future.
