Reimagining Regional Futures through Circular Innovation

Hub leader Professor Veena Sahajwalla AO recently joined national and regional leaders at the Regional Australia Institute’s Regions Rising National Summit 2025 in Canberra last month.

As part of the Workforce Skills and Digital Futures panel, Prof Sahajwalla discussed how innovation and local capability can help regional communities adapt to climate, workforce and infrastructure challenges.

Her insights drew on the Hub’s Fit for Purpose Technological Recycling Solutions project, which is supporting the development of decentralised recycling and remanufacturing systems that turn waste materials into new products.

This approach aims to support regional jobs, reduce transport needs and strengthen local resilience.

This aligns with the Summit’s call to reimagine regional Australia’s future and the Hub's ambition to help develop sustainable communities across urban, regional, and remote Australia that view waste as a resource.
