As Australia Day Ambassador, Prof Veena featured in events across the Narrabri Shire, including citizenship ceremonies, Australia Day awards presentations and community breakfasts in Boggabri, Narrabri and Wee Waa.
The role involved engaging with residents, celebrating local achievements and speaking to the importance of scientific innovation in sustainability.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be the Narrabri Ambassador," Prof Sahajwalla said.
She said she was excited to share stories with local communities and hear about their passions and concerns.
Her presence underscored the Hub’s commitment to bringing research impact to regional and remote communities while driving practical solutions to waste and sustainability challenges.
By connecting innovative recycling science with local audiences, the engagement highlighted how circular economy approaches can create opportunities and strengthen community resilience.
