Hub leader Prof Veena Sahajwalla was invited to speak at the Local Government NSW (LGNSW) Annual Conference in Tamworth from November 17–19, 2024. The event brought together key leaders and policymakers to address pressing issues in local government. It provided Prof Sahajwalla a platform to share some of the Hub’s sustainability research to translate it for local application.
As the guest speaker at the Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA) NSW Breakfast, Prof Sahajwalla shared insights into transformative solutions for regional and remote communities. Her speech explored the Hub’s thematic impact areas aimed at shaping a sustainable future:
- Regional and Remote Solutions: The Hub’s work highlights innovative strategies tailored to the unique challenges faced by regional areas. Local governments are essential stakeholder in this work.
- Waste as a Resource: Prof Sahajwalla emphasised the pivotal role of circular economy principles in local governance.
- Sustainable Communities: Bridging science and local action, her address reinforced the need for partnerships between researchers, councils and community leaders to create thriving environments.
The LGNSW Annual Conference provided an opportunity for networking, knowledge exchange and the alignment of policy priorities. The Hub aims to drive impact with these critical discussions and empowers local councils with the tools and knowledge needed to deliver sustainable outcomes.
